We use the past to define the present which inevitably moulds the future. But from a growth perspective when one considers all of the breakthroughs, achievements and discoveries humanity has made, either personally or collectively, the future has never really mirrored the past. If it did then there would be no progression and our evolution would be static.
All that is real is the present moment. The past is but an indicator not a dictator and the future is potential which is determined by our present thought patterns not our past memories or future imaginations.
